Art and Design Foundation- FMP project 2024

This project was my Final Major Project for my Foundation Diploma in Art and Design in 2024, which I completed with a Distinction. It remains one of my favourite bodies of work to date.

My aim for this project was to challenge myself to work across as many disciplines as necessary to create a complete and coherent brand identity. I thoroughly enjoyed bringing together a multitude of creative skills and processes, from developing pattern designs using raw plant materials, to screen printing and creating my own fabrics. I then explored garment construction and sewing to transform these fabrics into contemporary, wearable pieces.

The project also allowed me to develop my skills beyond the physical making process. I took on roles in creative direction, modelling, photoshoot planning and styling, producing digital imagery that could then be developed into marketing materials and editorial-style magazines.

I believe I thrived throughout this project because I had the freedom to pursue a complete creative vision and follow my instincts. Being able to move fluidly between disciplines allowed me to experiment, problem-solve and make creative decisions at every stage, resulting in a body of work that felt truly personal and cohesive.

At the heart of the project is the principle of sustainable and ethical design; I steeped each part of the process with a central point of mindfulness. I sourced second-hand hotel bedding for the fabric and did research into sacred geometry and the use of mandalas as a focal point for the mind, which I translated into the pattern design.
